Ever heard of a dress and chair in one? Check out this Self-Sustainable Chair by Joo Youn Paek. Made out of polyethylene, this dress-chair is basically connected to shoes that pump air as the person wearing the ensemble takes each step. The air pumped is pushed through the tubes, blowing a bubble and creating a chair suitable for sitting. Thus, the dress slowly transforms into a chair. Alternately, the chair slowly deflates when the person sits on it for a while.
The concept behind the Self-Sustainable Chair is to come up with something that will “transform the humdrum experiences produced by routine walking commutes into an amusing interactive performance.” Judging from the video, the whole suit looks a bit uncomfortable to wear though… I hope they could improve on the concept and later produce something less bulky or baggy and easier to walk in. 😉
